Garth Hillman

Dr. Garth Hillman is a technology pioneer who has been involved in the development of many new communications and computer technologies and products.

Before joining OakTree, Garth worked at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). He joined AMD as a New Products Development Manager in 2000 in their fledgling Wireless Local Area Network business focused on developing the lowest cost and lowest power .11x transceiver for the personal computer market. He later represented AMD on the Trusted Computing Group's Board of Directors and served as secretary of IEEE 802.11n Task Group.

Garth co-founded Motorola Semiconductors' (now Freescale) Digital Signal Processing endeavor early in his 19-year tenure there. Between Motorola and AMD Garth held a technical advisory position at Dell Computer. Garth started his career at Nortel where he was the electronics design manager at the Advanced Telecommunications Products Division which produced the world's first consumer electronic telephone.

While at OakTree Garth has continued his work in communications and combined that with his general interest in conservation, the environment, business. Much of his time is devoted to developing strategies and tactics to harmonize his interests. He remains active in IEEE, the Wi-Fi Alliance and most recently the ZigBee Alliance and Smart Grid activities under the auspices of the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel/NIST.

Garth earned his doctorate in Engineering Physics and bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Garth is based in Austin, Texas.
